FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
APPLICABLE TO OPTION (3) CONTRACTS ONLY
(a) How is UNISOUND able to offer all that in "Option 3" Contracts?!
There has to be some reciprocating benefits for both Artist & Unisound.
A very well refined set of responsibilities are outlined in the Unisound / Artist Contract The Artist will be bound to share your "Distribution Rights" for that album project.
The Artist shall in effect collaborate with Unisound to market the product. Each party shall benefit from the proceeds gained from the sale ofthis product.
The Artist is obliged to buy the finished products only from Unisound, and shall not be allowed to duplicate or re-produce the product elsewhere.
This is of course very fair because the production is financed by Unisound, and it is only reasonable to reciprocate this benefit to the parties involved.
Artist who choose not to be bound by such undertaking should consider "Studio Hire" option.
(b) How to qualify for consideration:
Submit a demo tape & relevant material for the project to Unisound for consideration
Once accepted, you can select the category of recording package suitable to you
A copy of the agreement will be provided for you to review and decide on
Artist will pay a '"Commitment Fee" ($1,500) upon acceptance & signing of agreement
Agreement will clearly outline the terms of your ownership & benefits due to Unisound
No additional fees applicable thereafter, and your recording sessions will be scheduled
(c) Would I have control over my selling prices, and do we have to keep the same?
No, you can set your own prices for wholesale & retail.
Unisound shall be transparent with its prices, and our recommended Retail Price shall serve as a guide for you only.
(d) Are we going to compete to sell to the same customers?
Not necessarily, because Unisound will give priority to the Artist to market the product to any outlet of their choice, unless of course they fail to satisfactorily do so. To avoid clashes, the Artist is encouraged to notify Unisound if they wish to maintain certain customers, and our aim is to supply the Artist to do most of the sales directly as much as possible.
(e) Is the Artist allowed to make deals for overseas Distribution?
Yes, there are provisions for many scenarios in this regard. The Artist & Unisound may both license interested parties overseas to produce and distribute the product, subject to conditions in the agreement.
(f) Any advice to musicians for this type of Recording Contract?
Yes, many make the mistake of wanting to produce an album so badly that they lack the concept and planning required to make their projects successful.
- Ask yourselves the most basic question to start:
- Do you just want to become famous, or you need financial reward as well ??
If your aim is just to become popular, then we feel you are heading in the wrong direction already.
Remember it is a waste of time for us producing your album if it is not financially rewarding for both parties. We will succeed if your project succeeds. How are we going to recoup our expenses if your project is not successful? Other factors like popularity & fame will come naturally when it is complemented with GOOD SALES result.
Here are some areas you need to look at very seriously before you engage in this type of agreement.
- Do you have any capital to get started or do you borrow money to get started?
- If you are borrowing, how you do plan to service your debt?
- Have you considered to seek sponsorship by way of giving them products in return?
- Are you prepared to engage in direct selling to shops & individuals?
- Who will handle the selling?
- Who do you sell to (any specific shops in mind)?
- Who handles the money received?
- Who looks after your stock, both safe keeping and restocking?
- Who decides on when to use some of the profits or continue the selling cycle?
- How many of you involved, and how do you share any benefits (if any)?
- Have you done simple calculations / projection on what your targeted profit?
- If your project is not as successful, would you be in debt?
